Piercestown CGI are part of a nationwide uniformed Association open to all women and girls. The mission statement of CGI is “CGI provide challenging, accessible Guiding opportunities within a safe environment to enable girls and women to develop their full potential, instilling leadership skills for the future”. Within CGI the age groups are broken down into various sections; Cygents, Brgíní, Guides, Rangers and Leaders. All sections work on achieving badges by completing challenges suitable for their ages and go on occasional trips and hikes. Briginí, Guides and Rangers also camp outdoors during the warmer months and camp in the hall during the winter months.
Cygnets are our youngest section aged 5-6 years old. They meet from 6-7p m on Monday evenings and their activities include news time, games, baking and crafts. Brigini are aged 6/7- 10/11 years old.
Brigini usually meet from 7-8:15pm and their activities include singing, dancing as well as crafts, baking and games. They also go on days out and weekends away, working towards outdoor skills.
Guides are aged 10/11 – 17 years old. Their activities include cookery, outdoor and life skills. Their programme leads them to organise a lot of their own meetings with the Guiders assistance. They also go on days and weekends away.
Rangers are aged 14- 19 years old. Ranger meetings are much more flexible and quite often they only meet once or twice a month. They run their own meetings and the Guider is only an observer. Rangers can then go on to become Guiders.
In Brigins and Guides we use the Patrol system as a way of making smaller groups within our Companies. Each Brigin is a special member of her own patrol. During patrol meetings the patrol plans future meetings and carries out plans already made. The Patrol will act on the decision of the majority of its members but will also take note of minority interests and try to include them as well. Each patrol has a Patrol Leader and an Assistant Patrol Leader.
